Media 100 Dual Boot Configuration Instructions for Customers that Own a non-OEM AJA PCI Card
Media 100 systems use AJA OEM hardware and drivers to run their software. Did you know that you may also use Media 100 with your existing AJA PCI-X and PCIe hardware?
Available for purchase from Media 100 is a "Boardless" option of Media 100 software. This version contains all of the features available to customers who own a Media 100 system with the AJA OEM hardware. The "Boardless" option will install the appropriate drivers so your existing AJA hardware will work with Media 100 software.
If you already own AJA PCI-X and PCIe hardware for Power PC or Intel based Macintosh computers, Media 100 recommends that you configure your system in one of the following ways.
1. You partition your existing hard-drive. One partition would contain your existing editing software, and your second partition would contain your Media 100 software that contains the Media 100 AJA OEM drivers.
2. You purchase a second hard-drive and install your Mac OS and Media 100 Software with AJA OEM drivers on this new hard-drive.
Option 1:
For your existing system that contains one hard-drive, you will need to back-up your existing data before you start. There are various software packages that allow you to do this procedure, such as Carbon Copy Cloner. Or, you could create a disk image of your disk and then place your disk image on removable media or some other storage method. It's important that you do not keep this image on the original disk, as this disk will be initialized (erased) and partitioned. It's also important to note the size of the of disk image, as you will need to copy this image back onto one of the partitions you are creating, and the size of the partition should be appropriate to the size of the image. Use Apple's Disk Utility (Figure 1) to format and partition your disk. You will need to create at least 2 partitions. After your partitions are created, restore your disk image back onto one of the partitions. You can now install your Mac OS and Media 100 software an AJA OEM drivers on the other partition and any other software you may need.

Option 2:
This is the simpler of the two options. You can have multiple disks in your Macintosh computer. If you purchase an additional disk you can simply install the Mac OS on this new disk, and then install your Media 100 software on the AJA OEM partitions. You should check your Macintosh manual to ensure you purchase the correct secondary hard drive.
Booting with 2 partitions or an additional disk:
To choose witch partition or disk to boot from simply hold the option key at boot time. A
selection screen will appear and you can choose the appropriate selection. Or, before you restart, you can select your start up disk or partition from the System Preferences (Figure 2).
